An international bestseller written by New York Times bestselling authors Molly Cochran and Warren Murphy.

When ten-year-old Arthur Blessing finds a strange antique cup, he has no idea it’s the most sought after object in history. Nor does he realize the discovery of the Holy Grail will take him on a journey that defies the rules of space and time.

As the cup’s fate-appointed guardian, Arthur is charged with protecting it from dark magic and a madman determined to harness the Grail’s legendary power. The mission threatens his very life, with assassins aligned against him at every turn.

Along the way, a washed-up ex-FBI agent and a mysteriously knowledgeable old man join Arthur in his dangerous task to keep the cup safe…and unlock the secrets of the boy’s own destiny.

The Forever King Contemporary Fantasy The Forever King Trilogy Book 1 eBook Warren Murphy Molly Cochran

First novel in a trilogy. Reminiscent of parts of TH White 'Once and Future King' combined with Robert Parker's Spenser series. Ex-FBI agent Hal takes the part of Galahad. A twelve year old boy from Chicago is Arthur and Merlin is Taliesin. Exquisite, never-dull, evocative writing. Centers on the timeless nature of the Holy Grail/magic cup that confers immortality on its holders. Arthur who is certain that eternal life would corrupt the best of us refuses Taliesin's offer to be the Grail's guardian. A long-time Arthurian/Grail Cycle aficionado I recommend this series of books to anyone interested in the Arthurian material. Though sometimes kept with YA books - this series is as good as any (parallels some of Susan Cooper's work too) and far better than most. The medieval sections are far too short. The heroics are bold and brave. The theology is social gospel at its best.

The Forever King Contemporary Fantasy The Forever King Trilogy Book 1 eBook Warren Murphy Molly Cochran Reviews

Interesting style of writing. The characters were well created but often it seemed there were too many rabbit trails. I did have to push myself to finish it because I had spent too many hours reading it to not see how it ended. Pretty predictable ending.
I really like this book. This is a story of King Arthur, Merlin, magic and mystery set in modern times. I read it several years ago, and loaned my copy to a friend. The friend failed to return it. I liked the story so much that I decided to get another copy. This copy was delivered faster than expected and was in near perfect condition. No more lending books to "friends"!
Always enjoyed King Arthur books and this one is no different. It's a page turner. Lots of action. Love. Love. Love the Black Knight's storyline. Will definitely not forget this trilogy, highly recommend!!!!
Its a different take on the time King Arthur Returns to England. .I have not finished it yet but I know that there are 2 sequels to the story. If you are looking for book with deep characters and many plot twist then you might pass this one. If you are looking for some light reading that is well written but isn't that deep then give it a try. I like it is a funny adventure ride with some ups, downs, a few sharp turns.
This is one of those rare books that jumps all around, introduces several characters and plot lines and you're still reading even though you don't entirely understand what's going on- you just have to read a bit more...it's like eating a bag of chips! I didn't finish this book because I felt it "drifted" towards the middle and a different sub-story became the focus. That's not a bad thing, but at the same time, this is book one of a triolgy and if I feel it's long-winded now, I don't want to set myself up for disappointment when I have to read more books to find out what happens (I'm just not a trilogy/multi-book series kind of gal). I still gave it four stars though, because the story is amazing and exciting and the characters are lovable and imperfect and if you like series-type books and "fantasy-meets-reality" this is so the book for you!
When I started reading this book, I almost did not continue. Based on the introduction of the characters,I thought it was going to be a dark, sinister novel -- which I don't read. However, the story quickly grabs a hold of you and won't let go. It's the equivalent of sitting around a campfire listening to a master story teller while you become so mesmerized that you are one with the story and everything else fades away except for the voice and the dancing fire. This is how it was for me. The authors blended time and characters so seamlessly that I found myself completely lost in it.

I quit reading Arthurian legends because no other author could come close to my favorite book, "The Mists of Avalon". However, this book is now sharing the billing for my all-time favorite book. Whereas "The Mists ..." is the female perspective of the era, "The Forever King" book is a different masculine perspective that spans centuries and brings a wonderful perspective of influences that could have been.

The ending was pure magic -- in more ways than one. I had chills (the good kind you get with surprises) coursing over my body several times. When I finished reading, I just sat back, shook my head and kept muttering "WOW!!" It has been a very long time since a book had that kind of impact on me.

I am looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy and I thank the authors for a wonderful story! If you like this genre, you will love this book also.
I am a big fan of Arthurian stories and this one of my favorites. While keeping most of the framework of the classic stories, this approach to the legend is fresh and brings modern times into the story which makes the whole tale more approachable and less stuffy. The gang is all here Arthur, Merlin, Nimue (in a new interpretation), the knights of the round table, a very old and very capable bad guy. And we cannot forget "the holy grail" which is central to the plot. It is like time travel without a machine as some of the Medieval characters are reborn in modern forms and others just pretty much live the heck out of everyone else in order to get here. They must all come to terms with who they really are and what their destiny is. Religion is a large factor in this book and I appreciated that the authors refrained from the too-common "Jesus bashing" and mockery that so often occur in secular literature. Jesus does appear in the story and is treated quite objectively and thoughtfully. He is portrayed much as he was probably seen at the time- with varying degrees of awe, respect, skepticism, apathy, hatred or fanaticism, depending on who was asked. Merlin is portrayed less as a Gandalf-esque super wizard in this story. He seems more like a tortured soul, burdened by an awesome "gift" that he barely knows how to control. This view of Arthur as noble but flawed and smart enough to admit he is flawed, is what makes him the timeless hero that he is.

This is a fascinating read and you will be sucked in from very early and will not want to be let go until the end of the third installment of this trilogy. The story continues in The Broken Sword King Arthur Returns and The Third Magic.
